Weekend intensive Spanish sword course

La Verdadera Destreza! other wise know as the art of true dexterity.

This Spanish system of defence was developed in the 16th century and saw continued use throughout the 17th century. The system of La Verdader Destreza was well renowned as an effective and sought after system of defence.

In this intensive course you will be intraduced to the history and core concepts and fundamentals of the system. Learn about the masters who developled and built upon the system throughout its history and most importantly the use of the iconic Cup Hilt rapier.

This course is a complete course looking at every aspect of the Spanish cup hilt rapier! running over one intensive weekend.

Whether for stage combat, screen fighting or martial arts this weapon has been used and admired by generations. From the Spanish swashbuckler and conquistador to the French musketeers.

The course is taught by a professional swordsman with many years of experience as both a martial artist and fight choreographer.

  • History of Destreza.

  • The Spanish Sword.

  • Footwork and body mechanics.

  • Timing and distance.

  • The Medios.

  • Correct cutting, thrusting.

  • Parrying, reposting.

  • Point control and the Bind.

  • Reading the opponent.

  • Creating and using the flourish.

  • Using the off hand.

  • Flow drills.

  • Control drills.

  • Talks and demonstrations of advanced fencing.

  • Scholar grading award for completion of course.

  • Access to classes and continuous training/workshops.

  • Access to off-hand weapons course on completion. Rapier and dagger/ rapier and shield.
